However, there are many foods with Vitamin K and with a healthy balanced diet you are getting enough Vitamin K and a supplement is not necessary. If you experience the symptoms described above or if you have a liver damage, then you might be short in Vitamin K. You should try to eat more foods high in Vitamin K then.

Natural Beauty With Vitamins

Blogged under Vitamins by Linda Lithony on Monday 13 November 2006 at 6:01 am

Vitamins play an important role in how we look and feel. Our body needs vitamins not only to survive. Vitamins are necessary to produce skin, hair and nails for example. Giving your body the vitamins he needs will help you to maintain your natural beauty.

Vitamin A is a crucial compound when it comes to the growth and repair of our body’s tissues. It is truly a wonder-vitamin, helping our skin to stay smooth and healthy, as well as protecting our mucous membranes. The mouth, nose, throat and lungs all benefit from proper Vitamin A consumption. In addition, Vitamin A aids in the formation of our bones and teeth. Basically, it is a building block that our body needs to maintain a healthy appearance.

The B-complex of vitamins holds the key to many facets of our health and appearance. Given the fact that there are receptors on all cells in the body for the B Vitamins, it is clear that we do not fully understand them yet; however, there are many visible effects the B Vitamins are responsible for. Vision, skin, nails and hair are all affected in a positive manner by Vitamin B-2, which also goes by the name of Riboflavin. Niacin, or Vitamin B-3, has been known to help in maintaining healthy skin, as well as helping your tongue stay healthy. Pyroxidine, Vitamin B-6, is also a factor in healthy skin. These are just the functions of the Vitamin B-Complex which pertain to beauty; they also facilitate metabolism and help to create energy in the body.

Vitamin C is another important factor when it comes to maintaining the beauty of the human body. Getting enough Vitamin C is crucial, because without it, the body cannot properly synthesize collagen. Collagen is an agent which is present in many parts of the body, forming a connective tissue between different entities. Healthy teeth, healthy bones, gums, and the healing of scar tissue and wounds are all positive side-effects of a regular Vitamin C regimen.

Vitamin E can also be beneficial to those who wish to enhance their beauty. It is a powerful anti-oxidant, which is useful to the body when it tries to fight off the harmful effects of free radicals, which are rogue cells which seek to damage the cell membranes present in the human body. This can result in a slowing of the aging of our cells, allowing all of our body to use the same cells for longer periods of time.

While these vitamins can all help you when it comes to maintaining the beauty of the various parts of your body, it is important to get all of the vitamins on a regular basis. Many key body processes besides those that are related to a healthy appearance are performed by vitamins. To get all of the vitamins you need, try your best to stick to a diet that revolves around the food pyramid. Eating enough of a variety of healthy foods can lead to your body getting all the vitamins it needs, without having to resort to supplements.

What Are Vitamins?

Blogged under Vitamins by Linda Lithony on Saturday 11 November 2006 at 5:32 pm

Vitamins are essential and have to be in our diet in sufficient form. If we don’t get enough vitamins we become ill. There are different vitamins and each vitamin can be assigned to particular diseases.

Vitamins are organic substances divided into water-soluble and fat-soluble. They are diverse in nature and are normally organic and found in our regular diet. They help preserve life and promote growth. They are different in function from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. They also vary in the amounts the body needs.

Vitamin originated from the word "vitamine" which was first used in 1911. They were thought to all have a nitrogen-containing ingredient known as asmines. When it was discovered not all the compounds contained asmines, the "e" was dropped and the word became vitamin.

There are different ways of deciding what we need in our diet. There are several items that decide what each of us needs to keep our body healthy. Genetic differences, any prescription drugs we may be on, if we have environmental stresses, and what other foods are included in our diet may affect how much of any vitamin we need to thrive. Recommended daily allowances are useful in helping us to decide what vitamins we need, but these are only guidelines.

Vitamins are important for our health and they help prevent diseases that are associated with a shortage of that vitamin. Diseases such as rickets, scurvy, pellagra and beriberi are diseases caused by lack of specific vitamins. Before you write them off as diseases that no longer exist, my grandson was hospitalized in serious condition because of rickets. His body was not using the Vitamin D that was in his body. Vitamins keep our bones and teeth healthy, keep us from going blind, and makes sure we don’t have unexpected bleeding in our bodies. Some studies show that Vitamins C and E helps reduce our risk of Alzheimer’s disease if they are combined in high doses. Vitamins protect our hearts from damage and help prevent cancer.

If we eat a balanced diet, we get most of the vitamins our body needs. The problem is, not all of us eat a balanced diet. Our body may also need higher doses of some vitamins to help prevent some diseases. We may also need more than the RDA requires for the vitamin be of maximum benefit.

Many vitamins for sale on the shelves of a pharmacy or supermarket may not include enough of a vitamin that is needed as a minimum. Read your labels, does your multivitamin give you 400 IU of Vitamin E? That is the amount your body needs as a minimum. Some vitamins are water soluble which means that if you have get too much the excess passes from the body through the urine. That means that we must restore our supply daily to have the amount we need for our bodies. Look at the label of your multivitamin. Is it giving you the amount your body needs?
