Anorexia hair loss

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Thursday 19 June 2008 at 2:47 pm

Anorexia and bulimia are diseases in which a woman has an unrealistic self image. She is obsessed with her weight and every ounce of food that is consumed. The difference is that an a person with anorexia will force her/him self to not consume any food at all, and a person with bulimia will eat large quantities of food and then purge or throw up the food which was consumed. Many times, in the worst cases the anorexic or bulimic person may end up with serious, life long health problems, however, hair loss is not one of them. When the person suffering from anorexia or bulimia begins to consume more proteins and is getting adequate nutrition, their hair will begin to return to normal. Short Hairstyles

Anagen hair loss phase

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Monday 16 June 2008 at 1:01 pm

Anagen is the next phase that the hair will go through. When in the telogen phase, the hair that is not able to grow anymore will fall out. The rest will move into the anagen phase, which is also known as the active stage. During this stage, the roots of the hair will begin to produce and divide cells. This will then produce a new hair that will push through the open follicles in the scalp. Usually, this type of hair will stay active for two to six years. If you have hair that doesn’t grow long, it is because the anagen has a shorter active phase. If you are losing hair or going bald, it means that the anagen phase is not as active as it used to be. By knowing this, you will be able to properly respond to the hair growth cycle in order to give your hair the boost that it needs to become more active. Understanding the hair growth cycle is an easy way to know how your hair should be taken care of and what is happening with the different areas of your scalp. After this, you can properly treat it in order to prevent hair loss from occurring. Medium Hairstyles

Surgery when morbidly obese?

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Monday 16 June 2008 at 1:00 pm

In order to qualify for weight loss surgery, a patient should be considered morbidly obese. Sometimes severely obese people are considered for this surgery if they present health issues. A patient with a body mass index of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight. Those with a body mass index of 30 to 34.9 are considered obese. A severely obese patient is one with a body mass index of 35 to 39.9. A morbidly obese patient will have a body mass index of 40 and over. Another common measurement of obesity is the waist circumference test. This measurement is often used in conjunction with other measurements and methods. Along with the body mass index chart, this is usually an accurate measurement of obesity. A man with a waist greater than 40 and a woman with a waist great than 35 show an increase risk for obesity. Doctors often use combined methods to measure obesity. Causes Of Obesity

Desert Survival Tips

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Friday 13 June 2008 at 1:51 pm

Try to maximize your visibility. Remember that vehicles are easier to spot than people. If you can build a signal fire, the smoke can be seen for miles around the desert. Don’t ration your water. Thirst is a sign of dehydration. Try not to eat anything, as digestion uses up valuable water. Use your vehicle to shelter yourself from the heat and other conditions. If you have to walk, do so at nighttime when it’s cooler. If you get lost in the desert don’t lose hope. There are special rescue teams who are trained to find lost people in the dessert. It’s your job to stay safe until they can get to you. Causes Of Global Warming

Homeopathy is safe

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Monday 9 June 2008 at 2:06 pm

Homeopathy is a safe, natural form of medicine, based on the practice of treating like with like. Homeopathy is derived from the Greek words homios, meaning like or similar, and italios, meaning suffering. Homeopathy is concerned with treating the whole person rather than the illness alone. The homeopath will consider the patient as a whole, both physically and psychologically, taking into account the patient’s physical appearance, their likes, dislikes and their temperament.

Prescribed chinese herbs

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Friday 6 June 2008 at 2:21 pm

As mentioned previously, the treatments can vary. A massage treatment is completely different from and acupuncture session. In many cases, the practitioner will prescribed chinese herbs to be taken orally, although some can be made into solutions applied externally as well. Chinese herbs tend to have a very pungent and off putting odor - so be warned! Another thing to be wary of, with regard to chinese medicinal treatments, it to ensure your practitioner is properly qualified and not just a bogus doctor in disguise. Homöopathie

Tips for dealing with an eating disorder

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Friday 6 June 2008 at 2:21 pm

Other tips for dealing with an eating disorder include getting enough sleep, ideally at least seven hours a night. Getting rest can often help alleviate the anguish associated with depression, anger and other powerful states. Also, the patient should seek to stay busy, avoiding having many hours of unstructured time in their schedule. These moments alone can often trigger a relapse of some kind of emotional eating. Dieting should be avoided. The idea of deprivation can also trigger emotional eating patterns. Bulemia

Chi

Blogged under General Health by Linda Lithony on Tuesday 3 June 2008 at 2:25 pm

TCM is an example of alternative medicine. TCM, short for Traditional Chinese Medicine, is a broad term for therapies which include massage, diet therapy, herbalism and acupuncture. TCM is based on the philosophy that having good health revolves around the correct flow of “chi” which is the energy of the body. The way this “chi” works is that it flows through our bodies in channels, known as “meridians”. These meridians in turn contain hundreds of points which link the differents organs and functions of the body together. Dr. Monika Schiffer
