Blogged under Anorexia Nervosa by Linda Lithony on Thursday 12 April 2007 at 5:46 am

signs-of-anorexiaIt is important to look for the signs of anorexia nervosa, an eating disorder that can lead to death. Anorexia is difficult to treat as it is a mental illness. Some persons suffer their whole life from it.

While the real causes of anorexia are still not known, it is assumed that eating and dieting habits can somehow become their own life. A sign of anorexia is that the affected person does not stop to diet although he or she has achieved the dietary goal already.

There is a distorted view of the own body. While slim and underweight already, the affected person still believes to be fat and overweight. Another warning sign is depression with the obsession to control something. In this case, controlling the own body weight gives the person a degree of satisfaction.

Blogged under Anorexia Nervosa by Linda Lithony on Tuesday 3 April 2007 at 6:58 pm

pro anorexiaThere are many pro anorexia sites out there. Since anorexia nervosa is a serious mental illness with a pretty high mortality rate, higher than some cancers, the question is if pro anorexia sites are harmful or not. Is it even possible that such web sites can cause an illness or worsen it?

These sites propagandize a lifestyle of dieting to become ultra slim. Some of the tips are harmful like the advice on taking drugs to loose weight. Other tips are simple dieting tips anybody should or could use to achieve a healthy slim body. It is important to make a difference. It is the wrong advice that causes harm.

Most pro anorexia sites are nothing more than dieting or weight loss sites. To name these sites pro anorexia sites is what causes confusion. There is nothing glorious in suffering from anorexia nervosa. Nobody with the right mind is really asking for tips on how to get ill.

For these people dieting and maintaining a slim body is a lifestyle. By naming themselves pro anorexia they want to separate themselves from common fitness or weight loss sites.
