Headaches can be a major pain. When headaches come on strong, you may find yourself unable to perform even the simplest of tasks due to the lack of concentration that a headache can cause. There are many reasons that one may feel a headache. Since the blood vessels in the brain are the major pathways along which bodily agents may travel, any changes to their structure can result in a feeling of intense pain. Researchers have also stated that they have found out that the level of magnesium found in a person’s brain drops when they have a headache.
To that end, many researchers believe that a lack of sufficient magnesium may bring on a headache. While these are some basic biological reasons that one may experience a headache, there are a host of more personal issues that can trigger a headache.
One thing that often leads people to having headaches is the food that they consume. While the foods that can bring on headaches vary from person to person, some of the most common foods known to bring on headaches include any type of alcohol, aged cheese, and chocolate. Also, foods that are pickled in brine can bring on headaches, as well as a few ingredients found in many products: MSG, aspartame, and caffeine. While these foods can cause different levels of headaches amongst those who consume them, fasting is another easy way to bring on a headache. When the body doesn’t get enough food, you may begin to feel lightheaded and a headache may come on.
Hormones are another leading cause of headaches. Many women complain of intense headaches when their levels of estrogen and progesterone fluctuate, with many women reporting headaches occurring most often before or during their monthly period.
Also, one may feel intense headaches when they do not get enough sleep, or if they get too much. Sensory overload is another reason that people experience headaches - being around an unfamiliar and powerful smell, or in an area of intense sound or bright light may bring on a headache. The state of the body needs to be considered, as well, as overly exerted people often experience headaches, as do those who are under a large amount of stress.
